Hope Cove Bunker Recce Shoot (01/03/12)

Here are some stills that I took during the Recce shoot today out at Hope Cove Bunker (near Salcombe); we didn't imagine that this location could provide just so many possibilities with regards to usable rooms for our production; and in fact because of the great location and the potential of such great scenes, Joe and Bob are now going to go back to their script for a re-write so that we can really make the most of this fantastic opportunity to film in such a unique environment.

This still is a shot just on the other side of the one of the main hallways; I  switched off the lights  leaving the lights on in the corridor, this really captures that creepy and atmospheric visual style got I feel could really add to the overall aesthetic feel to the project.

This is a still of one of the finest finds on the day; with a back lit board with a wore desk and chair that almost fits perfectly within the script already; this was a real gem of a room and with the correct lighting I think we can certainly achieve some of a German Expressionism scene or something along the lines of Bela Tarr's Damnation; this room has huge potential for our project.

Joe and Bob discussing the possibility of making use of the machine and the textured nature of the dials within this room for the project.

This is a still of the room above; the machinery in this room has a lot going on, and we agreed that we would try and make use of such great machinery available to us here to really set the scene of the characters location in the film.

A still from the underground crawlspace; with the lights turned off this really reminded me of the shaft scene in Alien, I think this really has to be in the final cut of the film, and Joe and Bob thought this was really amazing and will be re-writing the script so that we can make use of this space.

A still of the same crawlspace with the lights turned on; here you can see that this space has great texture  in it's walls and with the piping on the right, this has fantastic potential to look very interesting with the correct lighting set-up highlighting the atmospheric feel that you get from being down in this space.

Still of a passage way; in the script there are scenes of our character passing through hallways, this is one of the potential areas that we could use for these scenes; it's narrow and with a wide angle lens you do get that claustrophobic feel from this shot.

A still of another hallway; but here you can see that there are numerous doors down the way, this might not have the claustrophobic atmosphere that the above hallway does but it works more with the script as you can see entrances to another rooms that might help sell the location to our audience.

A still of the board back lit with the lights off; this shot looks great and there's potential here to make use of the board itself to write on, that could add to our film and the scene itself, setting the scene and portraying our characters background to the audience.

A small room with lots of potential for a time machine room as there is already a desk with interesting character and shapes; Joe and Bob weren't convinced that this would be the idle location for the time machine, but they were keen to make use of this room in the film.

The Recce shoot proved to be vital and highly useful for all parties; Joe and Bob got a feel for the place and by seeing the whole location found some great rooms that they feel have to be taken advantage of, so they are going to go away and rewrite their script so that we can get the most out of this location. For me being in the actual environment and getting a first hand feel for the views and atmosphere of the location, I got some really great inspiration and sparked some interesting research ideas and film related styles that would really suit this film and location well; I'm going to go and watch Alien and Damnation in particular to see if my initial responses to the Recce are potential interesting in the manner of lighting and atmosphere.
